Meet the Redbird Team
Redbird is a virtual agency working with contractors from Nova Scotia to Vancouver Island and clients from the West Coast of Canada to the West Coast of New Zealand. Here are the key members of our team.
Carol is the founder and president of Redbird Communications. She has worked in marketing and communications for 30-plus years as a strategic marketing advisor, creative director, and award-winning writer/producer. Carol began her career as managing editor for the Canadian Hospital Association, Judo Canada, the Canadian Track and Field Association, and the Canadian Sport Parachuting Association. (Yes, she jumped, 746 times.) She was writer/producer at a major Vancouver advertising agency and creative director at two Island agencies before founding Redbird Communications. Once dubbed the 'straightest creative person who ever lived', she is a stickler for the strategic underpinnings of creative campaigns, but loves a big idea above all. She has conducted behaviour change workshops and focus groups on energy conservation, diet and nutrition, organ donation and transplantation, and youth mental health, among other topics. Carol has a B.A. in psychology, and has completed a year of Health Care Organization and Management studies, as well as Dr. McKenzie-Mohr’s basic and advanced Community-based Social Marketing workshops. She was a panelist at BC Hydro’s Power Smart Forum in 2010, speaking on behaviour change as it relates to energy conservation. She has won numerous awards for her creative work and is a skilled writer, facilitator and public speaker. Ask about her legal magic mushroom experience!
Over the course of her 20-plus career in marketing, Carolyn Walker has managed internal and external production systems for a 35-person ad agency, as well as working in a supervisory capacity for a market research firm. Now she uses her production expertise and negotiating skills to find time and cost efficiencies on even the most challenging jobs. She is always looking for innovative ideas for Redbird's clients, and can track down any product or supplier on your behalf. Carolyn has managed many province-wide media campaigns, and coordinated the venues, photography, newspaper and radio insertions, print collateral and PR for a series of 12 community events across the province for The Kidney Foundation of Canada (BC Branch). Between work time and busy family time, she is a runner and a Junior Jazzercise instructor for elementary school children.
Redbird's favourite environmentalist, Lise was a founding member and primary developer of the Saint Francis Xavier University Sustainability Stakeholder Group. She was Youth Vote Coordinator for the Green Party, and worked as Environmental Programs Coordinator with Alberta Infrastructure. She also worked in the solar renewable energy sector, gaining a hands-on education about energy generation and distribution, and demand/supply side energy conservation strategies. Lise has managed Redbird projects for BC Hydro and Fortis BC, working with post-secondary institutions to reduce their energy consumption. She bikes to work, eats and grows local food, and has Earth Day ideas that last all year long!
Megan combines skills in corporate ID, advertising and web design with an intuitive design aesthetic and an impressive work ethic. She graduated from Pacific Design Academy with a diploma in Graphic Design in 2012 and was recommended by her instructor for an internship at Redbird Communications. Four years later, she’s our busiest designer. Meg has honed her expertise in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign and gained a wealth of experience, while still bringing ‘fresh eyes’ and a young perspective to any project.
Niusha is a talented graphic designer who specializes in visual identity design, branding and clever packaging. With her bachelor’s degree in computer science, a diploma in Communication Design, and graphic design experience in the technology and print media sectors, Niusha combines the analytic with the aesthetic, for desgins that not only look good, but make good sense. Niusha is able to skillfully match design styles for pre-established projects and innovate beautiful designs for new projects with room for creativity. Originally from Tehran, she likes to travel, watch European cinema, and play the Setar (a Persian instrument) and the piano.
