It's National Volunteer Week In Canada! How Are You Celebrating?
Apr 17 2015 - 12:00am
National Volunteer Week is now in its 74th year. Begun in Canada in 1943, National Volunteer Week was started to honour the important work of women who contributed on the home front during World War II. Since then, it has evolved, gained popularity and expanded to become the largest celebration of the vital contributions of Canadian volunteers. National Volunteer Week is a great time to evaluate and improve upon your organization’s volunteer engagement plan.
According to research in this area, there are three common things that stand out as important to volunteers in their relationships with organizations they contribute to. These are simple things that you can do to foster better volunteer engagement in your organization:
1. Match volunteers with the role that best suits their schedule and their talents.
2. Recognize the contributions of volunteers on a regular basis.
3. Demonstrate the direct impact volunteer contributions have had on your cause.
If you follow our blog, you already know that volunteer engagement projects are some of our favourites to work on. There is a lot of positivity and passion already and improving potential community contributions to a worthwhile cause is so rewarding.
